Full Salary Range: $38,385 - $63,975 AnnuallyHiring Range: $38,385-$50,180Annually
Work Schedule:

Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
This position is a working supervisor of a team of seven employees and is assigned to the Pavement Maintenance Section of the Streets & Storm Water Division. The employee in this position will be responsible for planning, organizing and reporting multiple asphalt maintenance projects assigned to the team and crews including crack pouring, full depth patching, and short overlays; coordinating with other crews, teams, and section employees; properly operating and maintaining the team's assigned and rental equipment; the performance of all work to assure its compliance with standards and specifications; maintaining good communications with the public; and providing equipment, materials, and process recommendations. The selected applicant will also assure the proper controls and safeguards are utilized so that all resources and assets assigned to and utilized by the team are properly accounted for. The Crew Supervisor participates in the selection and is responsible for the training, supervision, and evaluation of employees assigned to the team and is responsible for the proper use of safety equipment, proper and safe operating procedures and compliance with all departmental, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements. This position is subject to participating in emergency situations and work schedules assigned to the department including participation in the Loose Leaf Collection program and the City's snow removal program. The person in this position will coordinate the team's activities in support of the overall Field Operations plan under the direction of the Pavement Maintenance Supervisor, but uses independent judgment and discretion in carrying out daily and short term operations and assures that housekeeping activities are performed in a proper and timely manner. The selected candidate must have good writing skills with the ability to prepare reports as well as follow and convey verbal and written instructions. The physical requirements of the job involve stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed outside during all weather conditions. May be required to work a flexible schedule with little or no notice, which may include weekends and will be subject to working 12-hour shifts during winter or other weather events. This employee must maintain a reliable means of being contacted for call back duties and/or emergency situations. This employee must obtain a NC Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement within 120 days of employment in order to remain in position. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years experience in street construction or maintenance, public works, utilities, or a related field
    • "Or" No High School Diploma/GED with 5-7 years experience in street construction or maintenance, public works, utilities, or a related field
  • Prior work experience as a lead person or supervisor or leadership training
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Class A or B commercial driver's license
  • Tanker endorsement
  • Experience planning, organizing, or directing construction, maintenance, and/or support activities
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and/or Excel;
